Dag 10

Vandaag reizen van Mwanza naar Dar es Salaam (airport), waar we de nachtvlucht naar Amsterdam nemen.

Nu zitten we nog even op een terras met een mooi uitzicht op de stad aan het Victoriameer Het valt op hoeveel bedrijvigheid hier is.

Op de website van de ‘stad Mwanza’ lees ik het volgende:

‘Mwanza is the capital city of Mwanza region, on the southern shores of Lake Victoria in North Western (NW) Tanzania. With a population of over 900,000, Mwanza is the second largest urban settlement in Tanzania after the city of Dar es Salaam, and a major business centre for regions around Lake Victoria and neighbouring countries of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. The city is surrounded by rocky hills dotted with massive granite boulders.

The primary traditional economic activity in Mwanza region is agriculture, with farmers growing a range of food crops and cotton for export markets. Mwanza is experiencing major infrastructural development, with new highways opening to connect NW Tanzania to the city of Dar es Salaam and other parts of Tanzania, as well as other major cities in neighbouring East African countries.’

Goed om te lezen dat er hier zoveel in ontwikkeling is. Deze kant van Afrika krijgt in ons nieuws vaak maar weinig aandacht.
En tijdens deze week hebben Christien, Corine en ik er ook geen aandacht voor gehad. Toch goed om even te noemen op deze blog vind ik …..

Op een later moment, als ik weer terug in Nederland ben, wil proberen een kort slot woord te schrijven.
